Technical equipment
E~nema is generously equipped with a wide variety of machinery to produce and process microbial products.
The variety of machinery is constantly being expanded. Besides biorectors with high and low-shear stirring
systems in volumes of 10 to 8000 l, a variety of machines provide for the downstream processing,
stock-holding and formulation. There are centrifugal sifters, separators, several liquid filtration units
as well as a freeze dryer and 2 spray-dryers. Two cooling rooms are used to store temperature sensitve
products. The research laboratory is equipped with modern analytical systems (HPLC, GC, Photometer,
Luminometer, microscopes with image analysis). A microbiology laboratory is of course standard for
a company like e~nema.
Please join us on a tour through our facilities.
Bioreators
12 bioreactors (fermentors) are currently in use. The working volumes are roughly 10, 50, 500 3000 and 8000 l.
Most reactors are equipped with remote control computer aided monitoring and controlling systems to allow
interaction outside of standard working hours. The various stirring systems, Rushton-turbine, Intermig,
Internal-loop-stirring and air-lift, provide the means to produce bacteria, fungi and even real animals, like nematodes.

Separators
Two separators with 400 and 2000 l/h working capacity are used to separate solids from the fermentation broth.

Filter press
The filter press is a versatile piece of equipment to remove particles from liquids or to collect
and concentrate solids. Besides, there are filter-towers and pharmaceutically approved sterile
filters for filtration at the cubic-meter scale.

Lamella separator
The lamella separator is used to separate particles with different settling speeds.

Storage vessels
Stainless steel vessels with individually controlled temperature regulation are used to store nematodes and microorganisms with different temperature requirements.

Spray dryer
This spray-dryer is used for pilot studies. Depending on the drying temperature ranging from
150 to 250°C, 5 to 15 l suspensions can be dried per hour. Spores of fungi and
bacteria can be dried economically with this technique.

Packaging
Our packing machines are tailored for packaging shear-sensitive products like nematodes.
However they can be used for any free flowing powder or course particles.
