Aquaculture

Aquaculture

Aquaculture is concerned with the controlled breeding of aquatic organisms, i.e. organisms found in water. These are therefore not only fish, but also mollusks, crustaceans and plants. What all organisms produced in aquaculture have in common is that they are assigned to an owner who nurtures and cares for the stock. This is how aquaculture differs from classical fishing in public waters. On the contrary, aquaculture is becoming increasingly important precisely because of overfishing.
