Control leatherjackets and mole crickets with nematodes

nemastar® contains nematodes of the species Steinernema carpocapsae for biological control of leatherjackets and mole crickets.

Which pests can be controlled with nemastar®?

nemastar® is suitable for the control of mole cricket larvae, leatherjacket larvae and earthworms.

Mode of action

The nematodes penetrate the larvae of the pests and secrete a bacterium that kills the larvae. Inside the larvae, the nematodes multiply and infest more larvae. This process repeats until the nematodes find no further hosts or all larvae are killed. The nematodes are specialized in mole crickets, cutworms and leatherjackets and are completely harmless to humans and pets.

Application of nemastar®

The ideal time of application for nemastar® is when the soil temperature is above 12 °C for at least 6 hours a day. Immediately after application, the soil should be irrigated (1L/m²) so that the nematodes adhering to the plant parts also reach the soil. The treated areas should not dry out during the next weeks.

Application period: April/May and August - September

Mix nematode solution

Apply nemastar® as soon as possible after receipt according to the instructions on the package. The nematodes are not evenly distributed in the powder formulation. Therefore, always mix the entire contents of the package in the specified amount of water. Stir the mixed suspension every 15 minutes to keep the nematodes in suspension. Fill the required amount at a time and apply immediately. Use up the suspension completely, it cannot be stored. Apply with a watering can or nema sprayer.

Proper application of nematodes

Apply nematodes only on moist soil and with plenty of water, because nematodes that dry out die immediately. If soil is dry, irrigate before application or apply after rain. Apply the diluted nematode suspension evenly to the respective area. Immediately afterward, spray the area with about 1 L / m² to flush nematodes adhering to plant parts into the soil. Do not allow the soil to dry out for the next 4 weeks, water again if necessary.
