Molecular biotechnology: research fields, innovative use and career opportunities

Under this excursion topic, master students of the University of Osnabrueck (Germay) visited our company and took part of a lecture and a guided tour with Professor Ralf-Udo Ehlers, e-nema GmbH. The excursion was organized and led by Professor Hildgund Schrempf, geneticist at the University of Osnabrueck.

Professor Ehlers reported on the use of microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses and fungi in biocontrol. With their use many of today's problems in crop protection could already be solved. Unfortunately, this promising development is blocked and slowed down by excessive, costly and lengthy licensing procedures.

The students were very interested and asked many technical questions. The event was concluded with a guided tour through the factory, during which Professor Ehlers explained all stages of the production of nematodes, bacteria and fungi - from research and development through production to marketing.
