APPLICATION OF TP-NEMA®

Tp-Nema® controls all larval stages but is most effective against young stages, the younger the better. Applications to older larvae (3rd larval stage onwards) is not recommended due to undesired exposure of the worker to urticating hairs.

Since the nematodes must penetrate the larvae, it is necessary that they are sprayed onto the larvae. In the evening and night, the caterpillars are usually feeding and a contact is possible. In addition, conditions should be as windless as possible to prevent the nematodes from being blown away (< 12 km/h).

The nematodes are mixed with water and the additive nema-viscum. This additive protects the nematodes from drying out and improves adhesion to the leaves. Use spray cannons with nozzles >1 mm and apply 3-10 liters of spray suspension per tree. For reliable control rates (80%) repeat the application within 7-14 days.

MODE OF ACTION

The nematode Steinernema feltiae finds the caterpillar and invades through natural openings into the body cavity, where it releases its symbiotic bacteria. The bacteria multiply and kill the insect within 1-2 days. The nematodes feed on the bacteria and propagate. About 1,000 nematodes of the next generation emerge two weeks after application from one caterpillar. Tp-nema® is safe for beneficial insects, plants and humans. In addition, it can also be applied near water without any problems and the treated area does not need to be fenced off.

EFFICACY OF TP-NEMA®

Under favourable environmental conditions and with two applications control rates between 75 and 100% control effect are achieved. If nests remain, they are less numerous and smaller than in untreated oaks.

Tp-nema® is compatible with most chemical plant protection compounds, fertilizers and other beneficial insects.
