Hd-Nematodes
Heterohabditis downesi
Hd nematodes are microscopic, indigenous, naturally occurring nematodes of the species Heterorhabditis downesi (Hd).
They are insect pathogens (pathogen=disease-causing), specializing in certain pests, and are used as beneficial insects in biological pest management.
Hd nematodes are more cold-resistant than Hb-nematodes and can therefore be used at lower soil temperatures. While Hb nematodes require a soil temperature of at least 12°C, Hd nematodes can already be used at 8°C soil temperature.
Against which pests can Hd nematodes be used?
- weevil larvae (Otiorhynchus spp.) including spruce weevils (Hylobius abietis)
- grubs of welsh chafer (Hoplia philanthus), cockchafer beetles (Melolontha melolontha)
Good to know.
Against many other pests our Sf-nematodes, Hb-nematodes or
Sc-nematodes are in use.
